Commissioner Lauds KGHA House Committee on Youth and Sports

Kogi State Commissioner of youths and sports development,Hon.Idris Musa has praised the members of the Kogi State House of Assembly committee on youth and sports in synergy with governor Bello administration which has placed the state high in all ramifications.

Hon.Danjuma made the commendation when the committee chairman,Hon
Akande Moses representing Ogorimagogo Constituency, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Lokoja yesterday.

He noted that Akande’s led committee for their commitment to the Youth and Sports Ministry which he said contributed to the recorded success by the Sports ministry.

Speaking on the challenges since he assumed office,“He said “Success recorded upon his assumption of office sometime inJanuary 2021 despite the outbreak of the corona virus (covid-19) pandemic which restricted sporting activities and negatively imparted global economy.

“At the National Sports Festival held In Edo State, Our Contingent won several medals ranging from Gold, Silver and Bronze in different sporting categories. We’re still in touch with the grassroots as part of measures to identify and groom young talents for National and International Sports”,he said.

He also commended the governor Yahaya Bello for standing tall with the people during the Covid-19 era, stressing that his bold step not to “shut down the state gave birth to some window of Success sport wise”.

The Commissioner appealed for deeper synergy with the legislators for the Sports Trust Fund Commission to be quickly set up in order to ease the financial difficulties faced by the ministry in supporting, encouraging and organizing Sports events.

On his part,the House Committee Chairman, Hon. Akande Moses described the committee’s visit as part of their legislative oversight function aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two arms of government for easy and positive results.

He disclosed that everal questions bothering on achievements, current challenges of the ministry as well as suggestions on possible outcome going forward from Hon. Moses Idoko, Member Representing Dekina/Biradu at the state Assembly and other honourable members of the committee formed major part of the meeting’s highlight.


OICN: Omiata Leads a Successful Second Reading Debate



Hon. Musa Jimoh, fondly called Omiata has successfully led the second reading debate on a Bill for a Law to provide for the Establishment of Okunland International College of Nursing and Midwifery, Isanlu.

The objective of the Bill if passed into law in summary seeks to provide a legal framework for the regulation of administrative, academic and operational activities of the College in providing courses of study, training and research in Nursing, Midwifery and Reproductive Health leading to the attainment of National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nursing and Midwifery.

Supporting the Bill and seeking for accelerated passage into Law are Honorables Prince Hillarion Collins Musa, Aderonke Aro, Ademola Bello, Daniya Ranyi and Ujah Alewo Anthony.

They contributed differently that the College is long overdue as Yagba Federal Constituency is the only one without presence of Federal Tertiary Institution.

They also stated that the establishment of the College of Nursing will complement the recently upgraded Isanlu General Hospital, saying it will serve the people optimally.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole while ruling applauded the Bill, refered the bill to the House Joint Committees on Judiciary, Justice and Protocol; Health and Education for further legislative action.

Independence Day: Kogi Speaker Charges Nigerians to Remain Prayerful and Focus on Building a Nation for All

Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole has charged Nigerians to remain prayerful and focus on building a nation for all irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation as the country celebrates 61 years of independence from the British colonial masters.

The Speaker said the country has many reasons to celebrate despite the mirage of challenges that is confronting the nation, stressing that the word of God said, in all things, whatever the situation we should learn to give thanks to God.

He said though the country may not have gotten to its expected point in terms of development but commended the current administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari for his doggedness, determination and commitment to put the country on the path of progress.

The Speaker said it is the responsibility of the citizens to support and cooperate with its leadership as that is the only way the country can have a headway, stressing that the country has the capacity to overcome the security menace if all and sundry cooperate and support the relevant agencies to tackle the scourge.

He also used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to support the presidential aspiration of Governor Yahaya Bello being the youngest Governor in the country who has achieved a lot across all sectors of the state economy, noting that Kogi State security architecture still remained very strong to put the criminals under check. 

He said the State Assembly under his watch with his dependable colleagues will continue to make laws that will promote good governance in the state.

It is on this note that, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Matthew Kolawole on behalf of his family, Kabba/Bunu State Constituency, entire members of the 7th Assembly, management and staff of the Kogi State House of Assembly wish to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Yahaya Bello and indeed Nigerians for the celebration of the 61st independent of Nigeria as a country.

Motion: Ibaji Member Appreciates Gov. Bello and Pres. Buhari for Declaring Kogi as an Oil Producing State.



Member Representing Ibaji Constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Atule Egbunu sends appreciation to Kogi State Government and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello and President Muhammadu Buhari for declaring Kogi State an Oil Producing State.


The motion also recalled that, the former member representing Ibaji Constituency, Late Hon. John M.U. Abah on the 8th of November, 2016, sponsored a motion appealing to the State Government to expedite action in ensuring the declaration of Kogi State by the Federal Government of Nigeria as an Oil Producing State.

Hon. Egbunu accrued part of the success to Late Hon. Abah, with a prayer pleading that one of the oil wells be immortalized in the name of Late Hon. John M.U. Abah.

Hon. Musa Attajachi of Idah Constituency seconded the motion, while Hon. Edoko Moses Ododo supported the motion.

Other prayers of the motion are as follows:

  1. That a strongly worded Letter of Appreciation be dispatched thankfully expressing the members of the Kogi State House of Assembly and constituents to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Kogi State Governor.
  2. That the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Boundary Commission, be also called upon to fast track the process of demarcation of Kogi/Anambra and Kogi/Enugu boundaries to avert possible conflict arising from the proceeds consequent upon the activities of the Oil Companies in the areas where oil wells are located.
  3. That the State Government be called upon to inaugurate the Kogi State Chapter of Oil Producing Host Communities of Nigeria, registered at the National level but required the inauguration of the State Chapter to attract necessary investments and activities.
  4. That an appeal be further made, urging the State Government to set up Special Unit or a Department to protect the interest of the State to oversee the activities of Oil Companies in the State.

The Speaker while ruling applauded the motion, passed eulogies to Late Hon. John M.U. Abah.
